Spanish MotoGP: Lorenzo triumphs from pole

Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo got himself an early birthday gift after winning the Spanish GP from pole position to claim his first victory of the season.

The two-time former world champion impressed during the qualifying session and started the race brilliantly, before dominating the entirety of it to seize victory ahead of reigning world champion Marc Marquez.

Despite undergoing surgery on a fractured finger just eight days ago, Marquez did exceptionally to finish second, while Valentino Rossi finished third to clock his 200th podium finish. The third spot also allowed him to extend his championship lead over compatriot Andrea Dovizioso to 15 points.

Rossi currently leads the rankings with 82 points, with Dovizioso on second spot with 67 points. Lorenzo’s victory ensured that he remains third with 62, while Marquez maintained his fourth spot with 56 points.

The next Grand Prix is scheduled to take place in France on the 17th of May.
