Danny Chia believes that local golfers are more often than not influenced by the burden of high expectations that is placed on their shoulder.
The 2015 Malaysian Maybank Open is currently ongoing in Kuala Lumpur and as of Day Two, Danny is leading the Malaysian contingent on 16th spot. Local golfers have traditionally been merely decent in the MMO series and Danny claims it’s largely due to the pressure that is placed upon them to do well on home soil.
“Local players do not perform because of the expectations that is placed upon them. It can really be pressuring,” he told FourthOfficial.com
“Spectators don’t realize that the MMO is not like any other event; it involves the top 10 players and elite players. It will take a very good ball striking week to put up a good fight against them.”
Danny, who become the first Malaysian to clinch the Asian Tour victory in the Taiwan Open back in 2002, started well on the first day being finishing in the top three, though he faltered slightly on the second day.
However, the Malaysian golfer is high on confidence right now, following his victory at the Panasonic Malaysia Open, which was held recently. And as far as Danny is concerned, that was the perfect validation of his abilities; something that will help him in MMO.
“Well, the victory was very good for me as it boosted my confidence to be able to prove my hard work is paying off. I’ll definitely be keeping that in mind throughout the MMO,” he added.
