The Football Association of Selangor has rejected allegations of unpaid salary from Paulo Rangel, claiming that they have been to their words since his contract was renewed recently.
The Brazilian forward issued an ultimatum to FAS yesterday, saying that he wouldn’t hesitate to look for a new club, should Selangor not provide his salary within the space of one week.
However, FAS has now retaliated, saying that none of his claims has substance in it, and that they have been fulfilling their obligations as per the contract terms.
According to them, his contract was recently extended for two more years with a signing on fees of RM300,000. A payment of RM100,000 has already been given to Rangel, before he departed to Brazil for holidays and the balance of RM200,000 will be credited to him upon his return in a few days.
“Rangel also received a total of RM50,000 in bonus, for becoming the Super League top scorer earlier this year. In fact, he also received a similar signing on fees for his 2014 contract,” the statement added.
“So there’s no issue about us not paying him or owing him here.”
This certainly comes as a shock, considering that Rangel’s statement was relatively serious, especially when he suggested that he wouldn’t hesitate to leave the club and look for another team who would value his contributions.
However as FourthOfficial revealed in October, several undisclosed Selangor players opened up to us, claiming that the majority of the Selangor squad were not paid for two months.
Azmi Muslim also echoed Rangel’s sentiments on his Instagram account, saying that the situation is similar for all other players as well, which unofficially affirms the revelation we made.
Perhaps, its time the Players Football Association of Selangor (PFAM) get involved in the matter to investigate these allegations, to ensure that both parties are kept in check. PFAM recently confirmed to us that they aren’t directly affiliated under the Football Association of Malaysia, which would allow them the freedom to investigate this case without any external influence.
