The national junior cycling squad managed to secure a silver medal for Malaysia at the Asian Cycling Championship in Thailand, yesterday.
The Malaysian trio of Muhammad Khairil Nizam, Muhammad Shariz Efendi and Muhammad Fadhli Zanos set a new Malaysian record timing of 1 minute 03:608 seconds in the finals, though that wasn’t enough for them to claim the title of Taiwan’s 1 minute 03.409 seconds race time.
“It has been three years since we got a silver medal in this event but our team has managed to finally break the national record.” the team’s coach Junaidi Mohd Nasir told Harian Metro.
“I never would have expected this and I’m just proud that we gave our hundred percent.”
The Asian Cycling Championship is also an opportunity for the national cyclists to qualify for the World Track Cycling Championship (WTCC).
