Selangor FA defender believes that their dramatic comeback victory over Felda United last night was primarily down to the unparalleled support they received from the Selangor throughout the entire match.
The Red Giants were even 2-0 down at one point, but they kept going at with, before Hazwan Bakri and Guilherme De Paula ultimately netted two goals to make it 2-2 and drag the game into extra time.
However, nothing much materialized in the additional 30 minutes, through Selangor kept their cool to clinch the tie 4-2 on penalties, effectively knocking Felda United out of the FA Cup.
“The fans were absolutely amazing,” Rob told FourthOfficial.com
“To play with that many Selangor fans in the stadium, almost felt like a home match for us. They didn’t stop cheering, even when we were 2-0 down and they ultimately spurred us over the line.
“Everyone knows what a difficult start we’ve had to the season, especially in terms of fixtures. We had to fight our way back from being 2-0 down, and doing that with 10 men away from home was a massive boost for our confidence.
“We are a family at Selangor and we fight for each other until the death,” he added.
Last night’s victory also meant that Selangor got rid of two particular ‘hoodoos’ that has been affecting their season thus far. Firstly, knocking Felda out of the FA Cup certainly seems like a perfect revenge for the 4-0 defeat Selangor suffered last year, but beyond that, Guilherme de Paua finally opened his Selangor account; something that Rob certainly thinks was well deserved.
“It [the 4-0 defeat] was certainly on the back of their minds, I’m sure. And the coaching staffs touched on it before the game as well, so it’s definitely great to get the win and cheer up the fans.
“As for Guilherme, he has been a work horse for us thus far and last night, he worked tirelessly again though he did finally get his reward this time around. Hopefully, this is just the start of many things to come from him.”
