World number 29 Ivo Karlovic became the oldest ATP winner since 1989 in Delray Beach Open’s history when he downed America’s Donald Young in the final.
The 35 year-old only needed 69 minutes to defeat Young with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win to claim the top prize of $84,250 and his sixth ATP crown.
The Croatian also officially broke Jimmy Connors’ record of being the oldest winner on the ATP World Tour since 1989.
“It was really satisfying also for me to do this at my age, and it gives me a boost of confidence when I go into the other tournaments at Indian Wells and Miami.
“Last year, I was in four finals and I lost all of them, so I really wanted to do this one good. I was focused; I was doing my thing and it paid off.”
Karlovic though, revealed that he is uncertain to as how long he can continue at such a high level, but claims that he is still as fit as he was when he was in his late 20s.
