The Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) is hopeful of seeing 3-time SEA Games’ 400m hurdle gold medalist Noraseela Khalid participate in the upcoming SEA Games.
Malaysian Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin recently announced that the SEA Games will be primarily be used as a platform to develop and nurture younger athletes, which certainly makes the participation of Noraseela a doubt, considering that she’s a veteran in the squad.
And while MAF President Datuk Karim Ibrahim is keen on following the regulations that would be set by the Olympic Council of Malaysia, he doesn’t see a reason as to why Noraseela should be kept out of the team, considering that she is capable of contributing medals.
“I have no problems sending a senior athlete like Seela because she has proved her capabilities in securing medals for our country.” Datuk Karim told Harian Metro.
Datuk Karim also went on to reiterate that squad selection for the SEA Games will be premised upon various aspects and that 12 junior athletes that impressed at the Asian School Games in Philippines last year, will be part of the SEA Games squad.
