National shuttler Goh Soon Huat, who showcased a remarkable performance at the 2015 Maybank Kuala Lumpur Open, is likely to be given a bigger role in the national squad.
Coming in as a national reserve and seventh seed in the tournament, Soon Huat had an amazing breakthrough as he breezed past Malaysian favourites such as Liew Daren, Arif Latif and Tan Chun Seang to claim the title.
According to Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Deputy President Datuk Norza Zakaria, Soon Huat would be given more opportunities to play in bigger tournaments in the near future.
He also added that while Soon Huat was only classified as a national reserve player in most competitions, the 25 year-old has always done exceptionally when given the opportunity to do so.
“I saw him play in the Kopiko Purple League; he had a lot of discipline besides his drastic improvement in form,” Datuk Norza told Utusan Malaysia.
“I believe that if he continues this, he will go very far,” he added.
