15 year-old Goh Jin Wei secures Kuala Lumpur Open title

National junior shuttler Goh Jin Wei has made history by becoming the youngest shuttler to secure the 2015 Maybank Kuala Lumpur Open title.

The 15 year-old managed to squeeze pass national number 4 shuttler Lim Yin Fun with a tricky 21-13, 22-24, 21-19 victory in the women’s singles finals.

Jin Wei, who had a good opening set, could have seized a straight set win, with her even leading 19-13 in the second set at one point, before she suffered stomach cramps that eventually caused her to suffer a 22-24 defeat.

In the third set though,Yin Fun showcased her experience and pushed hard to lead 19-11, but the 15 year-old rookie was determined to be more than just a pushover as the fought back to clinch the set 21-19, thus securing the entire title as a whole.

The victory marks her first ever local open title, and she defeated the likes of Yang Li Lian and Lee Ying Ying en route to winning the tournament.

“This is a very good start for me,” Jin Wei told Utusan Malaysia. This Local Open title is one of the biggest win for me.”
