Selangor head coach Mehmet Durakovic has requested for fans to be patient with Guilherme de Paula, claiming that he needs a little more time to adapt to the style of Malaysian football.
The Brazilian forward was signed as a replacement for Paulo Rangel, but he failed to find the back of the net in Selangor’s 2-0 defeat to Terengganu last weekend. Durakovic though, was satisfied with his performance and has urged fans to be patient with him.
“Give him some time. It’s not easy for a foreign player to come into the Super League and immediately start scoring goals. He needs to adapt with his new teammates, a different system and a different league,” he told Harian Metro.
“I was happy with his performance against Terengganu. He worked hard, acted on openings that were created by his teammates and worked equally hard to manufacture chances for the team as well.
“As long as he keeps working this hard, the chances will come and goals will eventually arrive as well.”
Following their opening day loss to Terengganu, Selangor will next face another daunting challenge against Pahang on Saturday. The match will take place at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan, with kick off slated for 8.45 p.m.
