Kepong BC have been crowned champions of the Kopiko Purple League Champions Challenge after overcoming top seeds Muar City BC with a 13-8 win in the final.
The fourth seeds had a tough start after Arif Latif of Muar City BC defeated Kepong’s Nur Azriyn Ayup with a 11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 11-1 win. However, Kepong BC bounced back after Liang Xiao Yu secured a 11-9, 11-6, 11-7 victory over Muar’s Rusydina Antardayu.
Kepong BC then snatched the lead after Ow Yao Han and Tan Boon Heong defeated Tan Wee Kiong and Teo Kok Siang 8-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-10 in the men’s doubles.
The second mixed doubles team from Kepong, made up of Low Juang Sheng-Soo Kar Seong, also proved too strong for Muar as they claimed a 11-9, 11-5, 11-9 win over Chow Pak Chuu and Tan Bin Shen.
Goh Soon Huat then contributed another victory for Kepong after edging past Tan Chun Seang 11-9, 11-9, 11-7.
The victory meant that Kepong BC secured RM200,000 in prize money while Muar City went home with RM100,000
