The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will be increasing the allowances of national shuttlers by 50 to 100 per cent.
According to Utusan Malaysia, BAM President Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff revealed that the hike will depend on the shuttler’s performances throughout the year. In fact, those who break into the top ten of the world ranking could potentially earn more than RM100,000 a year.
“This scheme is designed to motivate the players to improve their performance internationally and this scheme would alter its value every three months” Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff told Utusan Malaysia.
That being said, the BAM president added that the allowances would not be effected if players pick up an injury or get switched within a doubles team.
However, if a player was to suffer a loss of form that results in a drop in their world ranking, the allowances would also be slashed to match the new ranking.
