McLaren chief executive officer Ron Dennis revealed that McLaren will only change the livery of its Formula One car if there are commercial reasons to justify the switch.
The former champions have being lacking title sponsors since 2013 and have received complaints on the livery of the new Honda-powered MP4-30; which is the usual silver, black and red colour scheme.
McLaren’s Dennis though explained that that they will not embrace a bold change of colours on their Formula One car if there is no reason to do so.
“We have had the same [discussions about livery] inside the team: all of these people were saying, why don’t we make it orange – because that was the old colour of McLaren?” he told AutoSport.
“Well, I say, ‘you just said it – it was the old colour of McLaren. Why the hell do we want to go backwards?’
“So what do you do? Do you create an aesthetically pleasing design? But for what purpose?”
