Djokovic powers past Murray to prevail in Aussie Open final

Novak Djokovic has been crowned the Australian Open champion after he powered past Andy Murray in a thrilling final in Melbourne.

The first two sets were incredibly close. Djokovic battled through the first set to win 7-6, despite Murray looking strong. The Brit was guilty of making a myriad of unforced errors, which ultimately gifted the first set to Djokovic.

On the second set, Murray continued to push hard on the offence, and ultimately secured a 7-6 victory to level the game. This ended up being the turning point as Murray started to depict signs of lethargy.

Predictably enough, Djokovic seized the upper hand halfway through the second set. Murray raced into a 2-0 lead, before Djokovic made it 3-2. Murray went on to win the next one, but from then on, it was all Djokovic. He clinched the third set 6-3, powering into the fourth set in a comfortable position.

But just when the crowd was hoping for a strong response from Murray, Djokovic upped his tempo and took advantage of Murray’s lethargy. From 1-0, he went to 2-0, then 3-0 and ultimately clinched the set 6-0 to triumph in an impeccable manner.
