Former Malaysian number one Sonia Cheah is on the verge of returning to be a part of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) set-up and feature for the national team again.
Sonia, who has been away from the national scene for almost 19 months now due to an Achilles tendon injury, will be returning to competitive action next month.
Her return comes as a timely boost for BAM after the retirement of Yang Li Lian, who premised her decision on wanting to pursue tertiary education.
“I am not completely fit yet but I still have time to overcome this problem,” she told Harian Metro.
The 2011 Junior World Championship gold medalist also proclaimed that she is not nervous despite being on the sidelines because she is primarily excited about rediscovering her drive and personal motivation to do well.
She is also aiming to be in the top 100 bracket soon as she prepares to participate in the Iran Fajr International Challenge, which will be her first tournament since 2013.
