Danish shuttler Jan O Jorgensen believes that the badminton structure in Malaysia has enough credibility to be able to produce world class players in the mould of Lee Chong Wei.
The 27 year-old recently overtook Chong Wei as the World No. 2 and while is he eager to see Chong Wei strutting his stuff on the court again, Jorgensen also thinks that Malaysian badminton will not head on a downward spiral in the near future.
“If players in Malaysia can do what Chong Wei has done, then maybe history will be created again. Perhaps, Chong Wei Feng and Liew Darren could make a massive leap in the last stage of their career,” he told Harian Metro.
“Obviously the situation is very saddening for Malaysia after the entire Chong Wei scandal. I’m not going to say if he is guilty or innocent, that we’ll have to wait for the trial.
“But I’m sure everyone is eager to see him back on the court as he is an amazing player and is already considered a living legend within the sport.
Jorgensen is currently contesting in the Kopiko Purple League as part of the Petaling BC set-up, but in the absence of Chong Wei, he is also eager to aim for bigger heights this year.
“I’m happy to be competing in the Purple League because the fans here love the sport! I love being in this country. But in the absence of Chong Wei, I also intend to challenge for honours. My goal is to win All England and the World Championship.”
