Frenz International Cup 2015: South American sides kick off with victories

Estudiantes and Internacional got their Frenz International Cup campaign off to a terrific start by securing victories in their first matches yesterday.

Argetinean side Estudiantes went up against AIFF India U-18 at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam, secured a comprehensive 3-0 win courtesy of goals from Marinelli Rodrigo Alberto, Lazzarini Emiliano and Miranda Fernando.

India did put up a decent fight, keeping several Estudiantes players at bay for most of the game, but the South American giants did more than enough to triumph over their Asian counterpart; leaving head coach Desio Hermes Aldo extremely pleased.

“I am happy we won in our first match in the FIC. The conditions and time difference made it a little difficult, but the boys did well. We want to focus on our next match against Frenz United Malaysia and then only we will think of Tottenham Hotspurs. We do not want to look too far,” he said.

Meanwhile, Internacional defeated Valencia 3-1 in Palembang to start their FIC campaign on an impeccable high. They were notably up against a quality opposition, but the Brazilian side displayed impeccable determination to ultimately swing the result in their favour.

Ronald Santanna opened the scoring in the first half, before Allan Rodrigues made it 2-0. Bruno de Souza then made it 3-0, though Internacional had a man sent off right after that, allowing Valencia to pull one back in the last 20 minutes of the game, courtesy of Marco Anatonio.

“We are thrilled with this win over Valencia and look towards playing Chonburi FC on Tuesday. That is our brand of football and we get very serious once on the field.  Unfortunate the ground conditions made it tough to play good football,” Internacional head coach Ricardo Cobalchini said after the game.
