Legendary Malaysian football icon, Datuk M. Karathu, has been appointed as Perak FA’s new head coach for the upcoming season of Malaysian football.
The decision was announced by PAFA in a press conference that was held in Ipoh today, with the appointment of Abu Bakar Fadzim as their new assistant head coach also being confirmed.
This news though, comes as a bizarre one after the Seladangs initially hired ex-Brunei DPMM head coach, Vjeran Simunic as their new boss. The experienced Croatian even conducted some of the initial parts of their pre-season training, and was reported to be heavily involved in their player scouting as well.
However, rumours of Datuk M. Karathu being roped in for the role surfaced, when the former Malaysian international was scene on the bench during Perak’s recent friendly games.
That being said, it now appears that the news has been confirmed and Datuk M. Karathu will be spearheading Perak’s youthful squad in the Super League next season. Perak FA though, did not provide clarification on the outcome of their association with Simunic.
This will officially be Datuk M. Karathu’s fourth management stint with the Seladangs, having previously coached them between 1989-1990, 2001 as well as in 2009. His last coaching stint was with Kelantan FA in 2011.
