Euro 2024 – Turkey vs Portugal: Silva and Fernandez on scoresheet to help Portugal through to the last 16

Portugal defeated Turkey 3-0 in Dortmund, Germany, securing first place in Group F with a commanding performance.

Early on, Rafael Leao’s excellent effort set up Bernardo Silva’s goal, which he hammered home for Turkey after Muhammad Kerem Akturkoglu wasted a fantastic opportunity. Turkey broke down after the second goal.

After Joao Cancelo misunderstood Cristiano Ronaldo’s run, the Manchester United custodian Altay Bayindir was not under any pressure when Samet Akaydin attempted a pass back, only for the ball to end up in his own net, and Ronaldo threw his arms up in disgust.

Vincenzo Montella’s Turkey, loudly cheered on by the Dortmund crowd, were suffering, and things were about to become worse. Early in the second half, Ronaldo broke free, selflessly laying the groundwork for Bruno Fernandes to score from close range.

Portugal, led by Roberto Martinez, now sits atop Group F with six points out of a possible six, eliminating any chance of a matchup with the favoured French team in the round of 16. In their last group match, Turkey will face the Czech Republic to determine their fate.
