Wrexham defeated Forest Green Rovers 6-0 to secure promotion to League One, including two goals by Paul Mullin.
Following their victory in the National League previous season, the Dragons, who are owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have been promoted twice in a row.
Elliot Lee’s goal in the 17th minute put Wrexham on the rise, as they needed to win and MK Dons and Barrow to lose points. After an own goal by Ryan Inniss, Mullin scored twice more to increase his tally to 13 goals in his previous 11 games.
Soon after the hour, Jack Marriott scored a late goal to spark the celebration after MK Dons and Barrow were both going down. Ryan Barnett scored Wrexham’s fifth goal shortly after that.
How Wrexham ascended in elegance
After Mullin’s header was blocked, there was a mad dash for the goal, which resulted in a corner and Lee’s first goal. Wrexham doubled their lead in six minutes.
Lee was involved once more, letting go of James McClean, who headed in his 24th of the season after picking out Mullin at the back post.
Wrexham, who had dominated the first half, took the lead for the third when defender Eoghan O’Connell attempted a long-range shot. His shot mercilessly deflected off Inniss, rendering goalie Vicente Reyes defenceless.
Before half-time, Mullin still had time to score Wrexham’s fourth goal. The striker, who was unmarked, was only partially cleared a corner before his shot bounced into the net.
In the second half, Barnett added to the score with a magnificent volley from McClean’s cross, making it 5-0.
Six minutes from time, Marriott sealed the victory as Wrexham rejoiced over yet another promotion.
