In Bayern Munich’s 3-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, Harry Kane scored his 24th Bundesliga goal, tying the club record for most goals scored in a debut year.
The team led by Thomas Tuchel is still two points behind Bayer Leverkusen.
After Bayern had missed numerous opportunities, Nico Elvedi gave Gladbach a startling lead in the first half. However, Aleksandar Pavlovic levelled shortly before halftime.
The home team had trouble producing clear opportunities in the second half, but Kane took advantage of a mistake made by Gladbach custodian Moritz Nicolas to tie the record set by Luca Toni in 2007. Later on, Matthijs de Ligt sealed the victory.
It appears that Alphonso Davies will be absent from Bayern Munich’s crucial Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
In the victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, Davies sustained a strained medial knee ligament, as announced by Bayern. The length of his absence will be determined by the scan results.
After receiving treatment, he had to be replaced by Raphael Guerreiro after pulling up during the last moments of the 3-1 victory.
Joshua Kimmich (shoulder) and Dayot Upamecano (hamstring) should be eligible to play against Leverkusen this week if they pass fitness tests, according to Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel.
Already sidelined due to hamstring injuries are Daniel Peretz (both knee) and Bouna Sarr (also with Bayern). Another long-term absentee is Kingsley Coman (knee), and Kim Min-jae is still representing South Korea in the Asian Cup.
Bayern travel to title rivals Leverkusen next on Saturday while Gladbach host Darmstadt on the same day.
