Werner and Dragusin have signed for the North London club on loan and 30 million pounds respectively, but are they gonna thrive and prosper in Postecoglou’s new look side.
Spurs started the season well, but suspensions and injuries have hindered their aspirations of their first Premier League title. James Maddison and Micky Van de Van, who both joined in the summer, have been subject to long term injuries which have limited their options in midfield and defence.
Spurs have had a host of attacking options this season with the likes of, Dejan Kulusevski, Manor Solomon, Richarlison, Brennan Johnson and of course their captain Heung-Min Son. However, Son will be away with South Korea in the Asian Cup which will leave a massive hole in Spurs’ attack. A role in which Postecoglou will hope that Werner can slot in perfectly.
Werner does have similar characteristics to Son in terms of their pace and dribbling however, Werner is notoriously know for not having and end product or clinical finishing. Werner was part of a Chelsea side that won the Champions League in 2021 and did say that he hopes to repeat that success and bring trophies to Spurs.
With Son’s absence, it provides the perfect audition for Werner as he is only on loan this season but does have a 17 million pound buy option. Postecoglou would only choose to activate it if Werner can prove his worth this season and moreover convince the fans that he is the perfect replacement for star striker Harry Kane, who left to Bayern for 100 million pounds in the summer. Werner will have some competition in terms of his place in the squad as Richarlison has been in great form in recent games.
Dragusin on the other hand, will arrive to much relieve as Spurs have been playing with only one established centre-back in Cristian Romero. They have filled the other gaps with their fullbacks, Ben Davies and Emerson Royal however they have proved to be surplus to requirements.
Dragusin’s transfer hasn’t been as straightforward on the other hand. Both Bayern and Spurs were vying for the Romanian’s signature, but it was Spurs who advanced into personal talks with him first. Bayern did try their luck again , but Dragusin chose to keep his word and move to Tottenham. This came as a shock to both Bayern and Dragusin’s agent, who was sceptical but respected his client’s decision.
Bayern have managed to sign a centre-back and its Spurs’ Eric Dier, for 4 million pounds. Dier has been linked with a move to the Bavarian side for a while, and Dragusin’s transfer proved to be the perfect opportunity for him to depart.
Now all eyes will be on Werner and Dragusin to see if they can rekindle Spurs’ early season form and push for a top 4 spot or even an outside chance at a title challenge.
