Malaysia Youth and Sports Minister YB Khairy Jamaluddin is confident of employing tighter security measures ahead of the AFF Suzuki Cup final this weekend.
The first leg of Malaysia’s semi finals tie against Vietnam was marred by a post-match incident involving several Malaysian fans, who brutally attacked a group of Vietnamese fans at the Shah Alam Stadium.
The incident sparked massive criticisms from thousands of people on social media sites, with questions being raised regarding existing precautionary measures that failed to prevent the fracas.
Nonetheless, Khairy remains optimistic of not seeing such incident repeat again, when Malaysia take on Thailand in the second leg of the Suzuki Cup final this Saturday,
“I am confident that the police and FAM will tighten the rules for the game. If any supporters were to engage in violent acts, calm them down. Everyone should play a role.” Khairy told Bernama.
Supporters have also been able to smuggle fire crackers and other prohibited items into the stadium, due to the nature of safety checks conducted by the police and security forces. Most of these checks are usually conducted inside the gates of the stadium, something that Khairy feels should change.
“I think the safety checks needs to happen outside the stadium. I propose that the Royal Malaysian Police Force conduct strict checks outside the stadium.”
First leg of the semi finals will kick off at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok tomorrow, before both sides lock horns for one final time at the Bukit Jalil Stadium this weekend.
