After a long and difficult hiatus, Selangor’s midfielder Andik Vermansyah is fit to be back for the team, and he cannot wait to spring into action.
The 25-year-old midfielder was out for the entire first half of the season as he spent the time in rehabilitation, recovering from an injury he picked up during the AFF Suzuki Cup bout last year.
There was also talks about dropping him from the squad and the possibility of him returning to his former club, Persebaya, and his position was replaced by another import, Juliano Mineiro.
But all that is behind him now. Months of perseverance has paid off, and the Indonesian midfielder will be making his long-anticipated comeback when the second half of the season kicks off this 1st of July.
In addition to that, he also believes that Selangor is a strong contender for the Malaysia Cup, and also the most likely team to win it.
“Both the Super League and the Malaysia Cup are very important to us. But the Malaysia Cup is more important, not because we’re not good enough to win the Super League, but because we have the right mentality to win the Malaysia Cup.” Andik told Harian Metro.
Selangor went up against Kedah at the 2016 Malaysia Cup final, but only finished as runner-up. The match went into spot kicks after a 1-1 draw, and Kedah bagged the trophy after beating Selangor 6-5.
Selangor will be kicking off their 2017 Malaysia Cup campaign this year by going up against Terengganu on the 4th of July in the Group D fixture.
Apart from that, Andik also said that he is thankful that he has recovered from his injuries after a long struggle — and he’s physicially and mentally ready to play for Selangor again.
“I’m also grateful to the Selangor management for still believing in me and giving me chance to play for Selangor.” he added.
Welcome back, Andik!
