Team Malaysia have been enjoying a fairly successful run in the Crown Group Australian Open that is ongoing in Sydney.
Mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing sunk 2017 Indonesian Open champions Tontowi Ahmad – Lilyana Natsir in two straight sets, 21-17, 21-16.
Another mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See also advanced into the next round after defeating Japan’s Takuro Hoki – Sayaka Hirota.
The Malaysian pair lost the first set 14-21, but bounced back in the second and third set 21-19, 21-14 to clinch their victory.
However, Japan’s Yuki Kaneko Takuto Inoue proved too good for Malaysia’s Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong.
The Japanese duo succumbed 16-21 in the first set, but retaliated strong in the second and third set as they outclassed Malaysia 21-13, 21-13.
