Instead of celebrating Washington Wizard’s final 10 points double overtime win against the Boston Celtics, John Wall broke down during a postgame TV interview.
The 24 year was left somber in the locker room, after he learned that Damiyah Telemaque-Nelson, a 6 year old cancer patient he had befriended last month, had died.
“The game was really meant for her. it would’ve been an even tougher day to lose it. I just went into a mode where i didn’t want to lose this game.” he said, dedicating the game to her.
He also paid tribute to the little girl on his official Twitter account.
If you were blessed to meet and get to know Miyah you know how special of a little gir… http://t.co/FjGYmt9oZR pic.twitter.com/twA7IjMI4k

“She’s in a better place. I’ll definitely miss my buddy.” he added.
Wall scored 26 points and the Wizards rallied for a 133-132 win over the Celtics in double overtime after squandering a 23-point third quarter lead.
