24-year-old Jupha Som Net is one of Malaysia’s promising track cyclist, and she’s set to win big at the upcoming 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
She was on a hiatus for about half-a-year as she chose to focus on her training to become a police officer. But she’s back now, and she’s determined to do her part in contributing a gold medal in the SEA Games’ omnium (cycling) event.
Her coach, Firdaus Daud, confirms that Jupha is ready to take on the biggest sporting tournament in the country this year, and he’s feeling good about Jupha’s progress.
“Jupha remains as one Malaysia’s hope for gold medal in the omnium. She will be competing in the criterium, and mass-start road race.” coach Firdaus told HMetro.
“I have no concerns about her performance, although she was away for six month to focus on her course.”
“She is still one of the best cyclists we have in the country, and we have a lot of plans for her. She will participate in various championships to get back to where she was before — and she’ll get there by August.” the coach assured.
Born in Perlis, Jupha won silver medal in the points race, and bronze medal in the scratch at the 2016 Asian Cycling Championships.
She will also be heading to Beijing this Sunday for two difference races at the 2017 China Track Cup with the national cycling squad. After that, she will be heading to the training camp in Melbourne end of the month to continue preparing for the SEA Games.
Good luck, and welcome back, Jupha!
