The disciplinary committee of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have imposed heavy fines worth RM10,000 on league leaders Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) and Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) for failing to keep their supporters in check during their league matches.
The Southern Tigers’ loyalists were found guilty of throwing rolls of receipt papers onto to the field during their 7-0 victory over Melaka United at home on April 9, whereas Kelantanese fans threw plastic bottles onto the pitch during their match against JDT three days later.
Kelantan lost 3-2 to the reigning league winners at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.
Datuk Baljit Singh Sidhu, who is the chairman of the disciplinary committee, reminded both sets of supporters to not engage in such activities as it will affect their clubs in the end.
“Based on the findings, these clubs (Johor DT and Kelantan) will be heavily fined with the amount equivalent to RM10,000,” Baljit Singh said as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.
“I would like to take this opportunity to plead to the fans of the clubs in the country to always look after their behaviour during matches because there will be consequences.
“Their teams were punished because of their own actions,” Baljit concluded.
FAM are extremely strict about fan violence and will impose heavier fines if necessary.
