Vietnam worried of potential fan unrest in Malaysia

Vietnam may have the upper edge of being on form, heading into their first leg clash against Malaysia, but they certainly appear to have concerns of their own as well,

Mai Duc Chung, head of the Vietnam Football Delegation claimed that his troops are worried about the potential unrest that could be brought about by Malaysian fans within the stadium, particularly the usage of laser pointers.

“In the past, we played under the intense pressure of unfair play by local fans. These activities, which are a Malaysian habit inside the stadium, strongly affect our players’ competitive mindset.”

The incident that was specifically referred to in his claims was from the exact fixture in 2010, when certain Malaysian fans allegedly used a laser pointer on the Vietnamese goalkeeper at that time, Bui Tan Truong, who went on to concede two goals in the game.

The match between both sides will take place at the Shah Alam Stadium later tonight, with kick off scheduled for 8.00 p.m. Malaysia will then travel to Vietnam for the second leg, which is slated for kick off on the 11th of December.
