Back in March, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli officially became Malaysia’s fastest female sprinter after she set a new national record for the 100m sprint event at the ASA Speed Series in South Africa.
Zaidatul smashed G. Shanti’s record of 11.50 s that was set in 1993, and became the new record holder with her time of 11.45s.
Now, the national sprint queen is shifting her target to ace the 100m sprint event at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in August.
Fresh from returning from her training stint in South Africa, the reenergised 23-year-old is determined to settle for nothing less than a gold medal at the SEA Games.
Meanwhile, she is still euphoric over holding the record as Malaysia’s fastest woman.
“The success of setting a new record was totally unexpected because it is not an easy feat to achieve. After having smashed the record, it was difficult to express my feelings,” Bernama quoted Zaidatul as saying, as they met with the sprinter at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Although the Kedah-born sprinter has an athletics championship coming up in Singapore, she does not want to strain herself too much. Her ultimate priority is still the KL SEA Games in August.
“I will rest for two days before resuming training and probably compete in the Singapore Open Athletics Championships next week.” Zaidatul said.
“However, I do not want to peak in Singapore because my target is the SEA Games.” she added.
She also noted that she will use her training experience from South Africa to do well in Malaysia’s biggest sporting tournament this year.
The 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games will be happening from the 19th until 31st of August.
