Kedah’s biggest fear has unfolded into reality.
Early in April, Kedah’s head coach Tan Cheng Hoe tendered his resignation to the Kedah Football Association (KFA), after he was earmarked to take on the position of assistant head coach.
However, KFA, at that point, refused to acknowledge his resignation as Tan Cheng Hoe has yet to receive any official offer letter from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
Moreover, Kedah was soaring high on top of the Super League table, and Tan Cheng Hoe’s departure could change everything.
But tough luck for the Red Eagles, Tan Cheng Hoe has confirmed that FAM has given him an official offer letter for the position of assistant head coach for the Harimau Malaya squad.
According to Bernama, Tan Cheng Hoe received his offer letter on the 5th of April.
“Yes, I have received my offer letter from FAM. However, I’m still waiting for response from the KFA management. We have a lot to discuss before I can leave.” Tan Cheng Hoe said.
Meanwhile, KFA have already started their head-coach-hunting process to find a suitable candidate to replace Tan Cheng Hoe.
KFA’s president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah said they are looking at both local and foreign coaches to replace Cheng Hoe.
“So far, we have discussed two or three names to replace Cheng Hoe, but we do not need to mention them yet.” Bernama quoted him as saying.
“A decision has not been made and he is still our coach as there are many matches coming up and several matters have to be settled,” he added.
The KFA president also noted they do not have much time left before Tan Cheng Hoe moves over to FAM, hence they will try to appoint a new head coach as soon as possible.
Although the offer letter has been given to Tan Cheng Hoe, FAM has urged Tan Cheng Hoe to remain with Kedah for the time-being, to complete all his pending duties for a smoother transition.
