Penang FA president Zairil Khir Johari has slammed fans for using violence to publicly vent their frustrations, hours after FAP’s headquarters was attacked with explosives earlier today.
According to reports, the attack occured at approximately 7.55AM. Initial rumours claimed it was a homemade bomb, though police forces eventually confirmed that ‘molotov cocktails’ were used to attack the building.
When contacted, Zairil confirmed the incident, before going on to reveal that his own home is being targeted by unhappy supporters.
“Yes, our office has been attacked for two days in a row. There are also people threatening to attack my home. It’s getting out of hand, really,” Zairil told FourthOfficial.com
“I have a family and now my staff are also living in fear. This is really unnecessary. I urge fans to remain calm. There is no use in resorting to such methods as they are committing crimes by doing so.
“Yes, this is the work of a small bunch of irresponsible fans. But if it continues, this will mar the entire game,” he added.
This comes after Penang fans went berserk after their 0-1 defeat to Sarawak at the Batu Kawan Stadium last weekend. Besides the club’s abysmal form in the Malaysia Super League, fans were also protesting against the appointment of Zairil as FAP’s new president.
As soon as the final whistle was blown, flares were lit within the stadium before the protest continued on the outside as well. Several facilities within the stadium were also destroyed during the protest.
