Malaysian cycling coach John Beasley claims he’ll be increasing his efforts in pushing for the development of more female cyclists within the country, after their disappointing showing at the Asian Cycling Championships.
Women cyclists from Malaysia failed to win a single medal at the ACC and Beasley feels something needs to be done sooner rather than later.
“We need to continue our search and I hope to be able to more find talented women athletes.” Beasley told Harian Metro.
“In fact, I hope the opening of the velodrome in Nilai will help us develop more world class women cyclists
Fatehah Mustapa, Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan and Nur Aisyah Muhd Zubir were Malaysia’s representatives in the women’s category at the ACC in India.
Azizulhasni Awang and Shah Firdaus Sahrom were the only Malaysian athletes to bag medals by winning gold (Sprint) and bronze (Keirin) respectively.
