Ex-Formula One driver Mark Webber survived a terrible crash while competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paolo.
Webber, who is competing for Porsche, drove into the wall with less than half an hour left in the race after an initial collision between his car and Matteo Cresoni’s Ferrari.
The FIA emergency crew rushed to the location of the crash and the on-site doctor initially proclaimed Webber as being OK, though it now appears that the Australian driver has been admitted into a local hospital to run through some tests.
“Mark Webber is in good condition, according to the first information from the doctors,” Porsche LMP1 boss Fritz Enzinger said.
Investigations on the cause of the crash is already underway, though rumours are speculating that it was due to a certain mechanical failure within Webber’s Porsche 919 hybrid.
Matteo Cresoni has also been admitted into the hospital for precautionary reasons, though reports suggest that he is completely unhurt.
