One of China’s biggest esports organisation have unveiled their third Dota2 team and it could become the game’s first ever professional mixed gender team!
Newbee.Boss was unveiled on their official Twitter account yesterday, and the biggest aspect of the announcement came in the form of their decision to include Axx – a renowned female Chinese Dota2 player in their roster.
The team also includes other seasoned campaigners like Zhang ‘xiao8’ Ning, Wong “ChuaN” Hock Chuan, Luo “Ferrari_430” Feichi, and Zei9. All players are from China, with the exception of ChuaN, who hails from Malaysia.
While Axx’s full name is unknown right now, her public Dota profile indicates that she’s primarily a fan of mid heroes. More importantly, she has a solo MMR of over 7k.
Considering this line-up has not been registered for the Dota2 Majors, they will most likely have to battle through open playoffs, to officially become the first mixed gender Dota2 team. With a line-up like that, you wouldn’t bet against them making it for Kiev Majors, later this year.
That said, this news comes as a major victory for the entire esports industry, which has been taking active measures to bridge in the gender gap in recent times.
