At least, Faiz Subri has a better chance of meeting the Real Madrid superstar than anyone of us do.
Faiz, 29, became an overnight sensation after his ‘physics defying’ goal for Penang FA was nominated for FIFA’s prestigious and coveted Puskas Award. If he does win, Faiz will be the first Malaysian AND Asian to win the award.
“If I do make the cut and make it to Zurich, I’d love to meet (Cristiano) Ronaldo. I have been a big fan of him since he started out at Manchester United and then made it big in Real Madrid.” the Penang-born midfielder told Harian Metro.
“I have always loved observing his skills, and I’ve learned a lot from just watching his free kicks. I’ve never met Ronaldo, and if I do get the chance, it’s something that I will never miss.” he added. Faiz scored his free kick from a distance of 30-metres in the 4-1 win over Pahang in Penang. It went on to be one of the most memorable Super League goals.
For Faiz, being shortlisted as Top 10 is already a big deal. “I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me, and for showing me a lot of support on social media.”
The Top 3 finalists for the Puskas Award will be revealed this Friday, so fingers crossed. Actually, no, use those fingers to vote if you haven’t already!
