Melaka United have moved swiftly to bolster their squad ahead of the 2017 Malaysia Super League season by securing the signature of Iranian-Filipino midfielder Omid Nazari.
The news was confirmed on their official Facebook page earlier today, with Omid officially making the switch from Philippines’ Global FC.
The 25 year-old midfielder was born to Iranian-Filipino parents in Sweden, before kicking off his football career with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s boyhood club, Malmo FF. He went on to sign for Angelholms FF in 2011 and spent approximately four years there before making the switch to FC Rosengard.
But after just one season there, Omid moved to the Philippines, where he signed for local giants Global FC. He went on to even score a hat-rick during his debut against Pasargad FC.
Having initially made his debut for Carlos Quieroz’s Iran in a friendly match back in 2012, the midfielder opted to switch allegiance and play for the Azkals instead. However, as they are still awaiting clearance from FIFA, Omid hasn’t been able to officially make his debut for the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Melaka United also announced the capture of Ghanian defender Godwin Antwi, who played for DRB Hicom in the Malaysia Premier League this year.
