More than anything else, Singapore’s Shahdan Sulaiman is eager to get back into the national squad. The 28-year was going through a rough patch since a severe leg injury back in 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup.
Shahdan broke his leg back in November 2014 during a match against Myanmar at group stage and had been struggling to get back on form ever since. The midfielder returned in action the following year with the LionsXII, and rejoined his debut club, Tampines Rovers, only to be plagued by more injuries.
Finally after two years, Shahdan is fit to return to national duty, and Lions head coach V. Sundramoorthy is more than happy to have him back. He has been called up for the provisional squad, and has to fight to prove himself worthy of a place in the national squad.
“This is a provisional squad and, just making it here is a bonus for the season. But no player will give up a chance to wear national colours. I’m ready to fight for my spot.” Shahdan told ESPN FC.
“I cherish every single call-up to the Singapore team,” the midfielder added. “This time it definitely means even more to me because after so many setbacks, I’m still here. Still standing strong.”
