That’s right, it’s someone else.
We all know that Frenchman Antoine Griezmann is a beast; he’s the reason Barcelona crashed out of the Champions League last season, and he’s also given Real Madrid an embarrassing defeat before. But we never thought that we’ll see the day when he beats two of La Liga’s all-time favourite stars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to emerge as La Liga’s Best Player.
The Atletico Madrid and French forward also bagged the supporters’ award that night. Griezmann is one of the 30 players named for the prestigious Ballon D’Or award for 2017.
It was a festive night for Atletico Madrid. Atletico’s coach Diego Simeone picked up the award for Best Coach, and this is Simeone’s third time winning the award. Their goalkeeper, Slovenian Jan Oblak was named Best Goalkeeper, while Diego Godin turned out to the favourite choice for Best Defender.
Although Lionel Messi did the claim the award Best Striker, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo unfortunately was not given any honour.
