Brazil’s golden boy Neymar suffered a severe blow to the face just yesterday during the Brazil v Bolivia game. He was elbowed in the eye by Bolivia’s striker Yasmani Duk, and the injury didn’t look so serious until blood started spilling down his face!
The Barcelona forward still carried on, he even scored one goal and set up two more for Brazil, but he was substituted at the 69th minute. Meanwhile, Duk escaped without a card.
Besides Neymar, here are some other football players who also suffered bloody injuries on the pitch that we still remember vividly:
Bastian Schweinsteiger – Germany v Argentina (World Cup)
The 32-year old Manchester United midfielder also had a blood-gushing experience after a collision with Argentinian forward, Sergio Aguero. After receiving prompt medical attention, Schweinsteiger came back on the pitch to resume his role.
Wayne Rooney – Man Utd v Man City
The Manchester United captain collided with Manchester City’s captain, Vincent Kompany, and it resulted in a nasty gash on his head. He had to have staples fired into his head, before continuing the intense derby.
Jeremy Menez – Bordeaux v Lorient
Jeremy Menez suffered a torn ear on his debut for Bordeaux. Actually, his ear ripped off after Lorient’s Didier Ndong accidentally stomped on his ear and retracted his feet with Menez’s ear caught in between.
Yikes! Welcome to the nasty side of football.
