At 49, Anita Yusuf is officially the first Muslim woman to successfully ride a motorcycle across 40 countries around the world.
The lecturer from Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Hulu Kinta started her journey last year on September 13 and returned on September 16 this year. Equipped with only RM 120,000 and her sponsored Yamaha FZ150 motorcycle, she covered a total distance of 65,369km in 370 days.
Anita says the experience is life-changing and she had a major paradigm shift. She hopes that her story will motivate other women to get out of their comfort zones and break stereotypes about women travelling alone.
“There is always a negative perception, especially when it comes to women, travelling to countries alone. There were instances when I visited some countries and the people could not believe that I, as a Muslim woman, was travelling alone,” she recalled.
Anita’s achievement has also bagged a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records as the First Solo Motorcycle Ride Around The World.
Oh, and she’s not done, her next plan is to ride to the Himalayas!
