“Indra Wijaya can help Malaysia produce its next Chong Wei” – Morten Frost

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have identified Indra Wijaya as the man to develop the country’s next world class badminton star.

BAM Technical Director Morten Frost was reponding to claims made by national badminton legend Misbun Sidek, who urged current men’s singles coach Hendrawan to train and produce a replacement for Chong Wei. As far as Frost is concerned though, they’ve got another man for the job.

“Hendrawan’s main role is to coach and train Lee Chong Wei, but of course he is helping out on the developmental side of things,” he told Harian Metro.

“But we have Indra, and he’s doing a great job with the youngsters. I believe he has what it takes to produce the next Chong Wei, but he needs to be given time to develop the young players under his disposal,” he added.

An example of Indra’s progress with the youngsters would be the triumph of R. Satheishtharan, at the recent Singapore International Series. The Indonesian is also currently training six other young talents – Cheam June Wei, Chin Wai Kin, Tan Jia Wei, Lee Zii Jia, Yeoh Seng Zoe and Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad Sanusi.

“I believe our young players are on the right track in terms of producing positive results. Hendrawan will continue training Chong Wei for now, but he’ll definitely aid Indra whenever it’s possible,” Frost concluded.
