Two Paralympic athletes from Malaysia set Rio de Janeiro alight earlier this morning as they clinched two gold medals from the T36 100m event as well as the F20 shot put event – breaking plenty of records along the way!
Ridzuan Puzi broke the Paralympic Games record to win the T36 100m event in style! He finished ahead of China’ Yang Yifei and Brazil’s Parreira Da Silva, with a record time of 12.07 seconds.
Known as Mr. Dash, Ridzuan was a heavy favourite heading into the event, and he certainly did not disappoint by putting in an incredible run to help Malaysia clinch its first ever gold medal at the Paralympic Games.
Meanwhile, Ziyad Zulkefli broke the world record twice en route to winning the F20 shot put event, surpassing his bronze medal finish at the 2012 London Olympics. Ziyad recorded a 16.40m throw with his first attempt, shattering the Todd Hodgets’ world record of 12.16m.
But he didn’t stop there. Ziyad went on to beat his own world record by clocking in a 16.84m throw to effectively hand him Malaysia’s second ever gold medal at the Paralympic Games.
