Sportsmanship has become a rarity, not just in modern day football, but sports in general where winning means so much to all of the competitors involved.
A handshake at the beginning and the end of every game along with a couple of jersey swapping is about as good as it gets, in fact it’s just a formality especially during derbies or tight matches.
With that said, Barcelona’s Infantil B side broke the norm with an incredible reaction after winning the World Challenge Cup last weekend.
They beat Japanese side Omiya 1-0 in Tokyo, before proceeding to console their crying opponents instead of crazily celebrating the triumph among themselves.
The team might be comprised of 12 and 13-year-olds, but they displayed an exemplary attitude as each Barca youngster made the effort of hugging and reassuring the Japanese players.
The Catalan giants’ La Masia academy prides itself in producing world class players such as Lionel Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta, and it’s safe to say that we’ll have another team of up-and-coming talents gracing the pitch with their commendable skills and attitude in the near future.
