Caterham F1 have made 230 staff redundant, ahead of next weekend’s season-ending race in Abu Dhabi.
The redundancies had reportedly come from the request of a majority of the staff, who had wanted to start a formal claims process that takes at least a month before any payments are made.
According to reports, the team, who went into administration last month, are planning to take 40 people to the Yas Marina circuit with their expenses fully funded by money raised through a crowd-funding initiative.
Caterham managed to raise £1.9 million, ahead of a targeted £2.3 million, with the deadline reset to midnight this Sunday.
They however, still face an uncertain future.
According to sources, Caterham still plan to talk to potential buyers at Abu Dhabi, with meetings already arranged with four to five interested parties with the necessary funds.
The staff at the factory in central England have not been paid since the end of September, and many have worked without pay for the past seven weeks in a bid to keep the team alive.
