A bus carrying reporters was reportedly shot on a highway, according to witnesses.
The bus was on its way to the Olympic Park from a basketball court when the passengers heard two gunshots hit the vehicle they are travelling in.
There were no serious casualties being reported from the shocking incident, but two passengers received minor injuries after getting hit by glass shards from the window.
“We got shot. What I meant was we heard the shot,” said Cherryl “Lee” Michaelson, a former United States Air Force captain, who is currently working for a basketball publication in Rio.
Local police said the incident was more likely being caused by projectiles instead of bullets, as investigations began.
The International Olympic Committee have also released a statement acknowledging one of the many issues plaguing the organisers.
“We are aware that a media bus travelling from Deodoro to Barra on the Transcarioca had two windows broken by objects coming from the surrounding area.
“The security authorities are now investigating the incident and we await their report before making further comment.”
