Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin has urged the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to enforce better methods in preventing fan riots.
This came after the ugly incident at the end of the Perak against JDT match, as Khairy believes that the usual punishment of issuing fines to rowdy supporters won’t be as effective as it used to be.
According to him, the payments were always covered by the clubs, but the trouble never ceased to stop.
“I would like to suggest for FAM to issue point penalties to whichever teams with an unruly crowd that causes disturbances at stadiums.
“This method might be able to curb such incidents since their actions will cause a loss of points for their respective teams,” he said.
Three were injured, including a journalist from New Straits Times as supporters from both sides thrown objects at each other after the game has ended at the Perak Stadium.
Khairy hopes FAM will increase the security presence in tightly contested matches to prevent such unwanted scenes.
“I don’t want to see a repeat of this incident and I hope FAM’s Safety Committee will tackle the issue in a serious manner,” he said.
