Sara Errani/Roberta Vinci kicked off 2014 with a runner-up finish in Sydney before heading to Melbourne, where they had to defend their Australian Open crown.
While they were unable to cap a magnificent clay court campaign with a second French Open crown, they completed their major collection a few weeks later at Wimbledon.
After electing against entering an Australian Open tune-up event together, Hsieh Su-Wei/Peng Shuai fell early at Melbourne Park, suffering a surprise exit to Shahar Peer and Sílvia Soler-Espinosa.
They however managed to bounce back, winning their next two tournament in Doha and Indian Wells, to stretch their remarkable finals winning streak to 11. In Paris, they made this 12, after dethroning clay court queens Errani and Vinci the final.
Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina battled through a tricky draw to reach the Australian Open final where they were narrowly beaten by Errani and Vinci. Their next final came in Miami, where they were blocked by Martina Hingis and Sabine Lisicki on a match tie-break.
However, they regained momentum again in New York, defeating Hingis and Flavia Pennetta to lift their second major.
After a brilliant start to their partnership, Cara Black/Sania Mirza found it harder to win during their second championships. They however held down titles in Oeiras and Tokyo, and runner-up trophies from their visits to Indian Wells, Stuttgart, Montréal and Beijing.
They saved their best until last, saving match points en route to the trophy at the WTA Finals.
