The first batch of the national Olympic contingent were left to rue their luck as they were assigned to dirty rooms, after arriving at the Olympic village.
Olympic Council of Malaysia’s (OCM) assistant secretary-general, Sieh Kok Chi broke the news after being informed by one of the officers accompanying the archers, sailors and shooter who made the early trip to Rio.
With that said, he hopes the national athletes will be mentally prepared to face any sort of difficulties or complications that might come up.
“I was told our athletes don’t have any choice but to clean their own rooms. They can’t even sit if they leave things at it is.
“This is not the first time our athletes have to deal with dirty accommodation. If I’m not mistaken, we faced the same problem at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, and we handled it calmly,” he told Utusan Online.
However, Kok Chi believes that the chef de mission, Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid will try his best to solve the issue as soon as he arrives on Friday.
A total of 32 national athletes will take part in the Rio Olympics, and they’ll travel in three groups, with the first batch already arrived on 21 July, follow by the second and third batch who will travel to Rio on Thursday and Friday respectively.
The issue of the unsavoury conditions at the Olympic village was raised two days ago, prompting the Australian contingent to boycott the venue until the organizers have rectified the problems.
