Johor Darul Takzim midfielder Safiq Rahim looks set to miss out on the AFF Suzuki Cup, as he continues to struggle with a knee ligament injury.
The hardworking midfielder tore his ligament recently, and it now appears that he will most likely not recover in time for the Suzuki Cup, something that Dollah Salleh is extremely frustrated about.
“I was told that Safiq had a ligament tear in his knee and may have to sit out for AFF Suzuki Cup. He is going to be a big miss because he has incredible amount of experience in these tournaments and is also my free kick specialist,” Dollah told Bernama.
While Safiq’s presence in midfield will be sorely missed, Malaysia will be keen to test their options ahead of the tournament. Syria have flown down for a friendly game later tonight, though another name is also in doubt for the game.
R. Gopinathan, who has been in scintillating form, is currently nursing a knee injury, and Dollah will most likely not take the risk of playing him against Syria.
